The Trans Realities Lab concluded an extraordinary Dutch Design Week 2025, transforming the Design Academy Eindhoven Graduation Show into a window into the future of distributed immersive systems for design collaboration and education. Standing alongside the incredibly talented DAE graduates, our installation became a hub of exploration and discovery.
Visitors experienced live demonstrations of our most recent projects – XR-IT and Hybrid Lab – witnessing firsthand how these platforms are redefining collaborative creation. Our massive LED wall served as a portal to our Lab’s journey, screening seven carefully curated videos including the official “Cat Content” movie (the world’s first film created entirely in the Metaverse), its making-of documentary, explorations of XR-IT’s networked capabilities, and showcases of the remarkable immersive projects created by our 4th year Digital Focus Module students.
The week buzzed with special events that brought our space to life. Creative Circular Cities and our STRP collaboration culminated in an inspiring award ceremony celebrating the three winners of the STRP Young ACT Award, accompanied by a thought-provoking lecture series. A particular highlight was our Friends & Sponsors Breakfast – an intimate gathering that brought together the creators of design education’s future. Dr. Ramon Amaro, DAE’s new Creative Director, alongside Raf De Keninck and Professor Ian Biscoe, discussed the upcoming relocation and articulated their transformative visions for DAE as a crucible where critical inquiry meets radical imagination – a space that doesn’t just respond to change but actively shapes the conditions for transformative design practices. The conversation explored how the Trans Realities Lab embodies this vision, serving as a living laboratory where students and researchers don’t just study the future – they build it.
In an age of extended realities, our Lab stands as proof that the boundaries between physical and digital, between here and there, between possible and impossible, are more fluid than ever before. The energy throughout the week was electric. The conversations were transformative. And the future? It’s being built right here in Eindhoven, one immersive experience at a time.
As we look ahead, we’re more committed than ever to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible when art, technology, and human creativity converge in extended reality spaces.
