On March 18th 2025, the Trans Realities Lab became one of the filming hubs for the short animated movie “Cat Content”. The shooting of this virtual production, involving teams in both Eindhoven and Helsinki, was facilitated by the eXtended Realities – Intraverse Toolkit (XR-IT). This toolkit allowed the director, actors, film crew, light crew, and many more human and non-human collaborators in this production to exchange information in real-time and across borders.
XR-IT efficiently streamlined device integration and audio-video communication between team members and between the director and actors, as well as ensured data synchronisation across locations. Another key element made possible by the toolkit is synchronising views of the physical and virtual environment (Unreal Engine) for all the parties involved in making this virtual production, making it easier to focus on real-time interaction and allowing the director and crew members to give live feedback within a shared virtual space. It also allowed actors performing in mocap suits to bring life to their animated characters more accurately and efficiently.
